Smoking cessation aid for nicotine dependence; helps reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings during quitting or cut-down-to-quit programs
How It Works
Nicotine replacement therapy provides controlled, lower doses of nicotine without harmful tobacco smoke. Nicotine released from the gum is absorbed through the buccal mucosa, reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms to support quitting.
Directions for Use
Chew 1 gum when you feel an urge to smoke using the “chew and park” method: chew slowly until a peppery/tingling taste appears, then park between cheek and gum; repeat for ~30 minutes. Do not chew continuously or swallow. Typically 8–12 gums/day initially (max 24/day). Use 2 mg if you smoke <20 cigarettes/day; heavier smokers may need 4 mg. Avoid eating/drinking (especially acidic beverages like coffee/cola/juice) 15 minutes before and during use. Taper gradually over 8–12 weeks or as advised by a doctor.
Not for non-smokers. Use with caution and seek medical advice if you have heart disease (recent heart attack, arrhythmia, unstable angina), uncontrolled hypertension, stroke history, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, liver or kidney disease, or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding. Stop and seek help if symptoms of nicotine overdose occur (severe nausea, vomiting, dizziness, weakness, sweating, palpitations). Keep out of reach of children—small amounts can be toxic if swallowed. Denture/TMJ issues may worsen due to chewing.

Drug Interactions
Other nicotine products (patch/lozenge/e-cigarettes) may increase nicotine side effects; smoking while using NRT increases overdose risk. Quitting smoking (with or without NRT) can change metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates—dose adjustment/monitoring may be needed for theophylline, clozapine, olanzapine, tizanidine, warfarin, insulin/antidiabetic medicines.
