Uses & Benefits
Treatment of superficial bacterial skin infections such as impetigo, infected eczema/dermatitis, minor infected cuts, wounds and abrasions caused by susceptible bacteria (commonly Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes).
How It Works
Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by blocking isoleucyl‑tRNA synthetase. This stops bacterial growth and helps clear the infection at the site of application.
Directions for Use
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, apply a thin layer 2–3 times daily or as directed by a doctor; may be covered with a light gauze dressing. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and inside nose unless specifically prescribed; wash hands before and after use.
Side Effects
Burning/stinging, itching, redness, dryness, local irritation, rash
Warnings & Precautions
Do not use if allergic to mupirocin. Avoid prolonged use or use on large areas, deep wounds, severe burns, or for long durations unless advised by a doctor. Stop and seek medical advice if severe irritation, rash, swelling, or signs of allergy occur, or if no improvement in 3–5 days. Not for ophthalmic use; avoid ingestion. Use with caution in patients with severe kidney disease if applying large amounts (some formulations contain polyethylene glycol).
Drug Interactions
No significant drug interactions are expected with topical use. Avoid applying other topical products on the same area unless advised (may reduce effect/irritate).
