Purified Rabies Vaccine (PVRV), cell culture vaccine, lyophilized powder for injection (strength per vial: )
Pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis against rabies following animal bites/scratches or other suspected rabies exposure, as per national guidelines.
It is an inactivated (killed) rabies virus vaccine that stimulates the immune system to produce rabies virus neutralizing antibodies. These antibodies help prevent rabies infection when given before exposure or promptly after exposure along with appropriate wound care (and rabies immunoglobulin when indicated).
For intramuscular (IM) use only as directed by a physician. Reconstitute the lyophilized vaccine with the supplied diluent and use immediately; do not freeze after reconstitution. Administer in the deltoid muscle (anterolateral thigh in small children); avoid gluteal region. Follow recommended pre-exposure or post-exposure schedule as per national/WHO guidelines; for severe exposures, give rabies immunoglobulin in addition to vaccine.
Common side effects of ABHAYRAB PF may include:
Rabies is fatal—do not delay vaccination after exposure. Proper wound washing and medical evaluation are essential; rabies immunoglobulin is required for category III exposures (as per guidelines). Do not administer intravenously. Use with caution in persons with acute severe febrile illness (vaccination may be postponed if appropriate). History of severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to a previous dose or vaccine components is a contraindication; ensure emergency treatment is available. Immunocompromised patients may have reduced response and may need antibody testing/extra doses per guidelines.
