Uses & Benefits
Prevention of tetanus (lockjaw) in children and adults; used for routine immunization and as a booster after injury/wound contamination risk
How It Works
The vaccine contains inactivated tetanus toxin (toxoid) that cannot cause disease. It stimulates the immune system to produce protective antibodies and immune memory against tetanus toxin.
Directions for Use
For intramuscular use only. Administer 0.5 mL as per national immunization schedule/doctor’s advice (primary series and boosters). Shake well if applicable; do not inject intravenously; can be given with or without food.
Side Effects
Injection site pain, redness, swelling, mild fever, headache, fatigue, body aches, nausea
Warnings & Precautions
Do not use if there is a history of severe allergy (anaphylaxis) to any component or after a previous dose. Postpone in case of moderate/severe acute illness or high fever (minor infections usually not a contraindication). Use caution in people with bleeding disorders (IM injection may cause hematoma). Keep emergency treatment for allergic reactions available. This vaccine does not treat active tetanus; seek medical care for high-risk wounds.
Drug Interactions
Immunosuppressants (e.g., high-dose corticosteroids, chemotherapy) may reduce vaccine response; may be co-administered with other vaccines at different sites; anticoagulants/antiplatelets may increase injection-site bleeding risk
