Known side effects of Tonoferon Drops include Nausea, stomach upset, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dark/black stools, metallic taste, teeth staining (with liquid iron). Not everyone experiences these side effects.

Important Warnings

Use only if prescribed for infants/children; overdose of iron can be dangerous—keep out of reach of children. Use with caution in patients with iron overload (hemochromatosis/hemosiderosis), hemolytic anemia, repeated blood transfusions, active peptic ulcer/IBD. Liquid iron may stain teeth—give towards back of mouth and rinse mouth after. Seek medical help for accidental overdose or severe vomiting, abdominal pain, or blood in stools.

Reduced absorption with antacids
calcium
dairy products; reduced absorption with tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones (separate by 2-4 hours); may reduce absorption of levothyroxine
bisphosphonates
penicillamine
methyldopa/levodopa (separate dosing).
