Important Warnings

Schedule X medicine: use strictly on prescription and under supervision. Risk of respiratory depression, excessive sedation and hypotension—higher in elderly, debilitated patients, and with other CNS depressants. Use with caution in liver disease, COPD/sleep apnoea, myasthenia gravis, depression/suicidality. May cause dependence, tolerance and withdrawal; avoid abrupt discontinuation after repeated doses. Do not drive/operate machinery after receiving. IV use requires resuscitation facilities.

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (opioids
barbiturates
sedating antihistamines
antipsychotics) increase sedation/respiratory depression; opioids carry high risk of profound sedation/coma. CYP inhibitors (cimetidine
omeprazole
fluoxetine
fluvoxamine
azole antifungals
macrolides) may increase diazepam levels. CYP inducers (rifampicin
carbamazepine
phenytoin
phenobarbital) may reduce effect. Valproate may increase sedation. Theophylline/caffeine may reduce sedative effect.
