Support of pregnancy in progesterone-deficiency states, threatened abortion and recurrent miscarriage due to luteal phase/progesterone deficiency (as diagnosed by a doctor), hormonal support in certain infertility/IVF protocols (as prescribed)
Hydroxyprogesterone caproate is a long-acting progesterone (progestin). It helps maintain the uterine lining (endometrium) and reduces uterine contractions, supporting implantation and continuation of pregnancy in progesterone-deficient states.
For deep intramuscular use only (not IV). Dose and schedule are as prescribed by the doctor; typically administered by a healthcare professional. Follow aseptic technique; do not self-inject unless trained. With or without food (not applicable to injection).
Injection site pain, redness or swelling, headache, dizziness, nausea, breast tenderness, abdominal discomfort, fatigue, mood changes, itching/rash
Use only under medical supervision, especially in pregnancy. Do not use if you have hormone-sensitive cancers (e.g., breast/genital), undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, severe liver disease, active or past thromboembolic disorders (DVT/PE) or stroke, or known hypersensitivity. Caution in patients with hypertension, diabetes, migraine, asthma, epilepsy, cardiac/renal impairment, depression, or history of fluid retention. Monitor for signs of blood clots (leg pain/swelling, chest pain, shortness of breath), jaundice, severe headache/vision changes. Avoid accidental intravascular injection; administer deep IM to reduce local reactions.
Enzyme inducers may reduce effect (rifampicin/rifabutin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, primidone, topiramate, St John’s wort). Some antivirals/antifungals that affect CYP enzymes may alter levels. May affect glucose control with antidiabetic medicines; monitor if used with anticoagulants/antiplatelets due to clotting risk assessment.
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep in original pack; keep out of reach of children.
