Overview
Drug | Tablet
Uses & Benefits
Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non‑valvular atrial fibrillation, Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), Prevention of recurrent DVT/PE, Prevention of venous thromboembolism after hip or knee replacement surgery
How It Works
Apixaban is an oral anticoagulant that selectively inhibits factor Xa. By blocking factor Xa, it reduces thrombin generation and prevents formation and growth of blood clots.
Directions for Use
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice daily. Can be taken with or without food; take at the same times each day. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice; if a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered and continue the next dose at the regular time (do not double).
May cause serious or life‑threatening bleeding; seek urgent care for unusual bleeding, severe headache, weakness, or blood in stools/urine. Use caution in kidney or liver disease, in elderly patients, and in low body weight. Inform doctor/dentist before any surgery or dental procedure—may need temporary interruption. Not recommended in patients with active pathological bleeding; caution with spinal/epidural anesthesia due to risk of hematoma. Do not discontinue without medical supervision due to risk of clot/stroke.
