Prevention of atherothrombotic events (heart attack, stroke) in patients with atherosclerotic disease; secondary prevention after myocardial infarction (MI) or ischemic stroke; peripheral arterial disease; used with aspirin in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and after coronary stent placement as advised by a cardiologist.

Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet medicine that irreversibly blocks the platelet P2Y12 (ADP) receptor. This reduces platelet activation and aggregation, lowering the risk of clot formation in arteries and stents.

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice (especially after stent/ACS). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it is close to the next dose; do not double the dose.

Bleeding/bruising, nosebleed, gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, abdominal pain, indigestion, rash, itching, headache, dizziness

Prescription-only (Schedule H). Increases risk of bleeding—seek urgent care for unusual bleeding, black/tarry stools, blood in urine, vomiting blood, severe headache/weakness (possible intracranial bleed). Inform doctor/dentist before surgery or dental procedures; may need to be stopped several days prior as directed. Use caution in patients with active bleeding (e.g., peptic ulcer), recent surgery/trauma, liver disease, or low platelet counts. Rare but serious: thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and severe skin reactions—seek immediate care if fever, extreme weakness, confusion, jaundice, or widespread rash/blistering occurs.

Aspirin/other antiplatelets (additive bleeding risk), anticoagulants (warfarin, heparins, DOACs), NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) and steroids (GI bleeding risk), SSRIs/SNRIs (bleeding risk), strong CYP2C19 inhibitors (omeprazole, esomeprazole, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine) may reduce clopidogrel effect; other PPIs like pantoprazole are generally preferred when acid suppression is needed; rifampicin and some enzyme inducers may alter effect; herbal products like ginkgo/garlic may increase bleeding risk.

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister/strip and out of reach of children.
