How It Works
Valproate increases inhibitory GABA neurotransmission and reduces abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Prolonged release helps maintain stable plasma concentrations for ongoing seizure and mood control.
Directions for Use
Take as prescribed with food if needed. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew prolonged-release tablets. Do not stop abruptly; periodic lab monitoring (LFTs, CBC) may be needed.
Not recommended in pregnancy; high teratogenic risk and developmental harm. Risk of serious liver injury, pancreatitis, hyperammonemia and low platelets; watch for jaundice, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, bruising/bleeding or altered sensorium. Use caution in liver disease and mitochondrial disorders.
