Localised superficial bacterial skin infections such as impetigo, infected minor cuts/abrasions, and secondary infection over dermatitis when susceptible organisms are suspected.
Fusidic acid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding elongation factor G (EF-G) on the 50S ribosome, blocking translocation; active mainly against Staphylococcus species.
Clean and dry the affected area; dust a thin layer of Fusigen Powder 2–3 times daily; avoid occlusive dressings unless advised; typical course 5–7 days or as prescribed.
Common: mild burning, itching, dryness, local redness; Serious: allergic contact dermatitis, angioedema, severe skin rash.
Use Fusigen Powder only on limited areas as prescribed; avoid prolonged continuous use to reduce resistance; not for fungal/viral infections; if no improvement in 3–5 days or spreading redness/fever occurs, seek medical review; caution in infants—use only under clinician advice.
Systemic statins (atorvastatin/simvastatin) with oral fusidic acid: rhabdomyolysis risk—topical use has minimal systemic absorption but avoid prolonged/large-area use especially under occlusion; other topical irritants: additive irritation at application site.
Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep tightly closed.
