PrescriptionRequired (Rx)
Overview
Drug | Tablet
Uses & Benefits
Short-term management of moderate to severe acute pain, including post-operative pain, dental pain, musculoskeletal pain, and pain due to injury where an NSAID is appropriate.
How It Works
Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis. This decreases pain, inflammation, and fever.
Directions for Use
Dispersible tablet: place the tablet on the tongue or disperse in a small amount of water and swallow immediately. Take exactly as prescribed, preferably after food to reduce stomach upset. Intended for short-term use only (typically up to 5 days); do not exceed the prescribed dose.
Schedule H: use only on prescription. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration (risk of GI bleeding/ulceration). Avoid in active peptic ulcer/GI bleed, severe kidney disease, bleeding disorders, after CABG surgery, and in known NSAID allergy/asthma triggered by NSAIDs. Caution in elderly, dehydration, hypertension/heart disease, liver impairment; may cause kidney injury and increase bleeding risk. Stop and seek care if black stools, vomiting blood, severe abdominal pain, chest pain, breathlessness, rash, or facial swelling occurs.
