Relief of abdominal cramps and spasmodic pain such as menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhoea), colicky abdominal pain, intestinal spasm-related pain.
Mefenamic acid is an NSAID that reduces pain and inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. Dicyclomine is an antispasmodic that relaxes smooth muscles of the gut/uterus by anticholinergic action, reducing spasms and cramping.
Oral syrup. Shake well before use and measure with a dosing cup/spoon. Take as prescribed by the doctor, preferably after food to reduce stomach upset. Do not exceed recommended dose or duration.
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain/indigestion, diarrhoea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation
Use with caution in patients with stomach/duodenal ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, hypertension, or dehydration. NSAIDs may increase risk of GI bleeding and cardiovascular events; seek help for black stools, vomiting blood, severe abdominal pain, chest pain or breathlessness. Dicyclomine may cause drowsiness/blurred vision—avoid driving if affected. Avoid use in glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, urinary retention/prostatic hypertrophy, and obstructive GI conditions unless advised by a doctor. Not recommended in infants; use in children only on medical advice.
Other NSAIDs or aspirin, anticoagulants/antiplatelets (warfarin, clopidogrel), corticosteroids, SSRIs/SNRIs (increased bleeding risk), antihypertensives (ACE inhibitors/ARBs/diuretics), lithium, methotrexate, cyclosporine/tacrolimus, alcohol, anticholinergic drugs, sedatives
