Tenormin 25 Tablet

Tenormin 25 Tablet contains Atenolol (25mg). Prescription required.

Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), angina pectoris (chest pain due to coronary artery disease), control of heart rate in certain tachyarrhythmias; may be used after myocardial infarction as advised by doctor.

Atenolol is a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker. It reduces heart rate and force of contraction and lowers renin release from kidneys, leading to reduced blood pressure and decreased oxygen demand by the heart.

Take orally as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food. Swallow tablet with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Bradycardia (slow pulse),dizziness,fatigue,cold hands/feet,low blood pressure,nausea,diarrhea,shortness of breath (rare),sleep disturbances

Schedule H: use only on prescription. Do not stop abruptly (may worsen angina or cause rebound hypertension). Use with caution in asthma/COPD (may precipitate bronchospasm), diabetes (may mask hypoglycemia symptoms), peripheral vascular disease, depression, thyroid disorders, myasthenia gravis, and in elderly. Contraindicated in severe bradycardia, second/third-degree heart block, cardiogenic shock, and uncontrolled heart failure. Monitor BP and pulse regularly; seek care if fainting, wheezing, or very slow heartbeat occurs.

Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension),verapamil/diltiazem (risk of severe bradycardia/heart block),digoxin (bradycardia),clonidine (rebound hypertension if clonidine stopped first),NSAIDs (may reduce BP-lowering effect),insulin/oral antidiabetics (masks hypoglycemia),antiarrhythmics like amiodarone (bradycardia),anesthetic agents (enhanced hypotension)
