Testosterone replacement therapy in adult males with confirmed hypogonadism (primary or secondary) due to inadequate endogenous testosterone production; used for symptoms such as low libido, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, loss of muscle mass and delayed puberty in boys under specialist care.
Testosterone enanthate is an ester prodrug of testosterone that is slowly released after intramuscular injection. It restores circulating testosterone to physiological levels, helping maintain male secondary sexual characteristics, libido, muscle and bone mass, and erythropoiesis.
For intramuscular use only, administered by a healthcare professional (deep IM injection). Dose and interval are individualized by the doctor (commonly every 2–4 weeks) based on symptoms and serum testosterone levels; do not self-inject unless trained; follow scheduled monitoring.
Injection site pain, acne/oily skin, increased hair growth, mood changes/irritability, headache, nausea, fluid retention/edema, increased red blood cell count (polycythemia), breast tenderness/gynecomastia, changes in libido, sleep apnea worsening
Use only in men with confirmed hypogonadism; not for use in women, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contraindicated in known/suspected prostate or male breast cancer; assess prostate (PSA/DRE) before and during therapy. Monitor hematocrit/hemoglobin (risk of polycythemia/thrombosis), liver function if clinically indicated, lipids and blood pressure; caution in cardiovascular disease, heart failure, kidney disease (fluid retention), sleep apnea and elderly. May suppress spermatogenesis and reduce fertility; caution in men desiring fertility. Misuse/abuse can cause serious cardiovascular, psychiatric and endocrine effects.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase anticoagulant effect—monitor INR), insulin and oral antidiabetics (may alter glucose control), corticosteroids/ACTH (increased edema risk), cyclosporine (may increase levels/toxicity), thyroid function tests may be affected (changes in TBG)
