Treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms such as urinary urgency, increased frequency of urination, and urge urinary incontinence
Tolterodine is an antimuscarinic medicine that blocks muscarinic receptors in the bladder detrusor muscle. This reduces involuntary bladder contractions, increases bladder capacity, and helps control urgency and frequency.
Take as prescribed by the doctor. Usually taken orally with water, with or without food, at the same time each day. Do not crush or chew unless advised; swallow whole.
Dry mouth, constipation, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, drowsiness, abdominal pain, nausea, dyspepsia, urinary retention
Use with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, gastric retention, severe constipation, myasthenia gravis, liver disease or kidney impairment. May cause dizziness/blurred vision—avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Seek urgent care for severe abdominal distension, inability to pass urine, eye pain/vision changes, or allergic reactions. Not typically recommended in children unless specifically prescribed.
Other anticholinergics (increased side effects), strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir), CYP2D6 inhibitors (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine, quinidine), medicines that prolong QT interval (use caution), prokinetics like metoclopramide (reduced effect)
Store at room temperature below 25°C, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
