How It Works
Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor. It increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which enhance glucose-dependent insulin release and reduce glucagon secretion, lowering blood sugar with low risk of hypoglycaemia when used alone.
Directions for Use
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily, with or without food. Swallow whole with water; take at the same time(s) each day. Do not stop without medical advice.
Side Effects
Headache, dizziness, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, tremor (more likely with sulfonylurea), hypoglycaemia (especially with insulin/sulfonylurea), skin rash
Warnings & Precautions
Prescription medicine (Schedule H). Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in liver disease; liver function tests may be advised and drug should be stopped if significant enzyme elevation or symptoms of hepatitis occur. Use caution/avoid in moderate to severe renal impairment depending on doctor’s advice. Rare but serious: pancreatitis (seek care for severe persistent abdominal pain), severe skin reactions, hypersensitivity/angioedema, severe joint pain. Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly.
Drug Interactions
Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased risk of hypoglycaemia), ACE inhibitors (may increase risk of angioedema), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (may worsen glycaemic control), other antidiabetics (dose adjustments may be needed).

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
