Important Warnings

Severe teratogenic risk: contraindicated in pregnancy; effective contraception required during therapy and for an extended period after stopping (per prescriber guidance). Do not donate blood during treatment and for a prolonged period after discontinuation. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 2 months after stopping (can form etretinate, prolonging teratogenic risk). Use with caution in liver disease, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, obesity, depression; monitor LFTs and lipid profile regularly. May cause night vision impairment; caution while driving. Avoid excess sun/UV exposure. Do not use with other retinoids or vitamin A due to toxicity.

Alcohol (increases conversion to etretinate)
tetracyclines (risk of intracranial hypertension)
vitamin A/other retinoids (additive toxicity)
methotrexate (increased hepatotoxicity)
phenytoin (protein-binding interaction)
progestin-only mini-pill may be less reliable (use combined/dual contraception)
lipid-lowering agents and hepatotoxic drugs (additive risk)
