Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine that enhances the action of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. This reduces excessive neuronal activity, producing anxiolytic and calming effects.
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Usually taken by mouth with or without food; take at the same time each day. Do not increase dose, take more frequently, or stop suddenly—dose should be tapered to avoid withdrawal.
Common side effects of Anxit 0.25 Tablet may include:
May cause sedation, dizziness and impaired driving/operating machinery. Risk of dependence, abuse and withdrawal symptoms—use for the shortest duration at the lowest effective dose. Do not stop abruptly (withdrawal, seizures may occur). Use caution in elderly, depression/suicidal ideation, liver disease, respiratory disease (COPD, sleep apnea) and myasthenia gravis. Concomitant use with opioids, alcohol or other CNS depressants can cause profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma or death.
