Dextrose 5% w/v + Sodium Chloride 0.9% w/v (Dextrose Normal Saline)
Treatment and prevention of dehydration; maintenance fluid therapy; provides calories (glucose) and electrolytes (sodium, chloride); used in hypovolemia as directed; dilution vehicle for compatible IV medicines.
Dextrose provides a source of energy and helps prevent ketosis, while sodium chloride replenishes extracellular fluid and electrolytes. Together they restore fluid balance and help maintain blood volume and osmolarity.
For intravenous infusion only under medical supervision. Dose and rate depend on age, clinical condition, and electrolyte/glucose status; monitor blood glucose and electrolytes during therapy.
Common side effects of DNS Infusion may include:
Use with caution in heart failure, renal impairment, uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension, and edema states. Monitor fluid balance, serum electrolytes and glucose. Avoid rapid infusion; risk of pulmonary edema. Do not use if solution is cloudy, leaking, or container damaged.
