Type 2 diabetes mellitus; helps control blood glucose along with diet and exercise
Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity in muscles. It also decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, leading to lower blood sugar levels.
Take as prescribed, usually once daily with the evening meal or with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew sustained-release tablets.
Common side effects of Exermet 500 SR Tablet may include:
Risk of lactic acidosis (rare but serious), especially with kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, alcohol abuse, or heart/liver failure. Use caution in elderly and those with renal impairment; kidney function monitoring recommended. Temporarily stop before iodinated contrast procedures or major surgery as advised by doctor.
