Phenobarbitone (Phenobarbital) 30 mg
Epilepsy and seizure disorders (generalized and focal seizures) as an antiepileptic; sometimes used for seizure control as advised by a specialist
Phenobarbitone is a barbiturate antiepileptic that enhances GABA-mediated inhibitory neurotransmission and reduces neuronal excitability. This raises seizure threshold and helps prevent seizure spread in the brain.
Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily (often at night) or in divided doses. Do not stop suddenly due to risk of withdrawal seizures. Avoid driving/operating machinery if drowsy.
Common side effects of Gardenal 30 Tablet may include:
Abrupt discontinuation can precipitate seizures; taper only under medical supervision. Causes sedation and can impair alertness. Long-term use may cause dependence and bone health issues; monitoring may be needed. Serious skin reactions and hypersensitivity can occur; seek care for rash, fever or mucosal sores. Use caution in liver disease, respiratory disease, porphyria, and in elderly.
