A condom acts as a physical barrier that prevents semen from entering the vagina during intercourse. This reduces the chance of fertilisation and also lowers exposure to infectious body fluids, thereby reducing STI transmission risk.
Use a new condom for every act of sex. Check expiry date and ensure the pack is intact; open carefully (avoid nails/teeth). Pinch the tip to leave space and roll onto the erect penis before any genital contact; use only water-based lubricant if needed. After ejaculation, hold the rim and withdraw while still erect; remove and discard in a bin (do not flush).
