Bacitracin zinc 250 IU/g + Neomycin sulfate 3.5 mg/g + Polymyxin B sulfate 5000 IU/g
Prevention and treatment of minor skin infections in small cuts, wounds, abrasions, burns; helps prevent bacterial infection in minor skin injuries
This is a topical triple-antibiotic combination. Bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, while neomycin (an aminoglycoside) and polymyxin B disrupt bacterial protein synthesis and cell membrane integrity, providing broad antibacterial coverage against common skin pathogens.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer 1–3 times daily or as directed by a doctor; may be covered with a sterile bandage. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and inside the nose; wash hands before and after use.
Common side effects of Neosporin Skin Ointment may include:
Do not use on large areas, deep puncture wounds, serious burns, or for prolonged periods unless advised by a doctor. Stop use and seek medical advice if irritation, rash, swelling or no improvement in 3–5 days occurs. Avoid use if allergic to bacitracin, neomycin, polymyxin B or other aminoglycosides. Use caution in patients with significant skin barrier damage as neomycin can rarely be absorbed and cause toxicity; avoid in ear if eardrum is perforated.
