Treatment of erectile dysfunction (inability to get or keep an erection) in adult men
Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It increases cGMP levels in the penis, enhancing blood flow during sexual stimulation and helping achieve and maintain an erection. It does not work without sexual arousal.
Oral tablet. Take as advised by a doctor, usually 30–60 minutes before sexual activity (may take up to 4 hours before). Swallow with water; can be taken with or without food, but a heavy/fatty meal may delay effect. Do not take more than once in 24 hours.

Schedule H: use only on prescription. Do not use with nitrates (nitroglycerin/isosorbide) due to dangerous fall in blood pressure. Use caution with heart disease, recent heart attack/stroke, uncontrolled hypertension or hypotension, severe liver/kidney disease, retinitis pigmentosa, bleeding disorders, active peptic ulcer. Seek urgent care for chest pain, sudden vision/hearing loss, or erection lasting >4 hours (priapism). Not for women or children.
