Important Warnings
Opioid medicine: risk of addiction, abuse and misuse; can cause life-threatening respiratory depression, especially at initiation or dose increase. Avoid use with alcohol or other CNS depressants (sedatives, sleeping pills) due to excessive sedation/respiratory depression. Use with caution in elderly, liver or kidney impairment, head injury, seizure disorders, low blood pressure, respiratory disease (e.g., COPD, sleep apnea). May cause drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery. Risk of serotonin syndrome when combined with serotonergic drugs.
