Tapiristat 20 mg Tablet contains Topiroxostat (20mg). It belongs to the Centrally acting opioid analgesic (mu-opioid receptor agonist and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) class of medicines.

How Tapiristat 20 mg Tablet works

Tapentadol is a centrally acting opioid analgesic. It relieves pain by activating mu-opioid receptors and also increases norepinephrine levels by inhibiting its reuptake, which enhances descending pain inhibition.

How to take Tapiristat 20 mg Tablet

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed. Swallow tablet whole with water; do not crush/chew. May be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day if on a schedule. Avoid driving/operating machinery until you know how it affects you.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Tapiristat 20mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can seriously suppress the bone marrow and damage the liver. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription opioid: risk of dependence, abuse and addiction. Avoid use with other CNS depressants unless advised. Use caution in head injury, seizures, liver/kidney disease, and history of substance misuse. Do not stop abruptly if used regularly; taper under medical supervision.

Do not take Tapiristat if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an active serious infection, or with severe liver or bone-marrow disease. Several of these medicines must not be used in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol, benzodiazepines (diazepam/alprazolam), other opioids, sedating antihistamines, antipsychotics, antidepressants (SSRIs/SNRIs/TCAs), MAO inhibitors (avoid within 14 days), tramadol, linezolid/methylene blue (serotonergic drugs), gabapentin/pregabalin
