Important Warnings

Use only on medical advice in children. Accidental iron overdose can be dangerous/fatal—store out of reach of children. Use with caution in haemochromatosis/haemosiderosis, repeated blood transfusions, active peptic ulcer disease or inflammatory bowel disease. If symptoms of allergy, severe stomach pain, persistent vomiting, or blood in stools occur, seek medical help. Iron can darken stools (usually harmless).

Antacids
calcium supplements/milk
tetracyclines (e.g. doxycycline)
quinolones (e.g. ciprofloxacin)
levothyroxine
penicillamine
methyldopa
bisphosphonates—may reduce absorption; separate dosing by 2–4 hours. Chloramphenicol may blunt response to iron therapy.
