Important Warnings

Use only under supervision of an HIV specialist and always as part of combination therapy. May cause bone marrow suppression (anemia, neutropenia); regular CBC monitoring required. Risk of lactic acidosis and severe hepatomegaly with steatosis; seek urgent care for persistent nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain, deep rapid breathing, or severe weakness. Use caution in liver disease and in patients with pre-existing anemia/neutropenia. Long-term use may be associated with myopathy and lipoatrophy. Do not share needles; continue safe sex practices as this medicine reduces viral load but does not cure HIV.

ganciclovir
interferon alfa
ribavirin) may increase risk of anemia/neutropenia; probenecid may increase zidovudine levels; valproate may increase zidovudine exposure; rifampicin may reduce zidovudine concentrations; avoid/stay cautious with other nephrotoxic/hepatotoxic medicines; do not co-administer with stavudine (antagonistic effect).
