Drop
Used as a topical ocular local anaesthetic to numb the eye before diagnostic or minor surgical procedures (e.g., tonometry, gonioscopy, removal of superficial foreign body, suture removal).
Topical local anaesthetics block sodium channels in nerve endings of the cornea and conjunctiva. This prevents initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, producing temporary numbness of the eye surface.
For ophthalmic use only. Instilled into the affected eye(s) as directed by an eye specialist, usually 1–2 drops prior to the procedure; onset is rapid and duration is short. Do not use for self-treatment or prolonged use.
Transient burning or stinging, eye irritation, redness, watering, blurred vision, foreign body sensation, allergic reaction (rare)
Use only under medical supervision for procedures; repeated/prolonged use can delay corneal healing and cause corneal damage/ulceration. Avoid touching dropper tip to eye/skin. Do not wear contact lenses during use and until anaesthesia wears off. Seek urgent care if severe pain, persistent redness, reduced vision, or signs of infection occur.
Other topical eye medicines (separate by 5–10 minutes); concurrent use of multiple topical anaesthetics increases risk of corneal toxicity. Specific systemic interactions are unlikely with short procedural use.
Store below 25°C, protect from light, do not freeze. Keep container tightly closed; discard if solution changes colour or becomes cloudy. Use within recommended period after opening as per label.
