Uses & Benefits
Bacterial infections such as ear infection (otitis media), throat/tonsillitis/pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, and skin/soft tissue infections, as prescribed
How It Works
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, stopping bacterial growth and helping clear susceptible infections.
Directions for Use
Oral suspension: Shake well before each dose. Measure with a dosing syringe/cup. Give exactly as prescribed, usually once daily; may be taken with or without food (give with food if stomach upset). Complete the full course; reconstitute with boiled and cooled water up to the mark if supplied as dry syrup.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, rash
Warnings & Precautions
Use only for bacterial infections (not for viral cold/flu). Inform doctor if history of allergy to macrolides, liver disease, jaundice with antibiotics, heart rhythm problems/QT prolongation, or myasthenia gravis. Stop and seek care if severe allergy, severe/persistent diarrhea (possible C. difficile), or signs of liver injury (yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine). Dose adjustment may be needed in severe hepatic impairment. Use cautiously in infants/children as directed by pediatrician.
Store tightly closed at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution, store as per label (often below 25°C); do not freeze; discard any remaining suspension after the labeled expiry period (commonly 5–10 days).
