Ceftizoxime 500 mg (injection)
Serious bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, gynecological infections, septicemia (as per clinician judgment)
Ceftizoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, causing bacterial death. It is effective only against susceptible bacteria.
For IV/IM use only, to be given by a healthcare professional. Dose and duration depend on infection type, severity, and kidney function. Do not stop early; complete the prescribed course.
Injection site pain, diarrhea, nausea, rash, elevated liver enzymes, headache
Prescription-only injectable antibiotic. Contraindicated in known cephalosporin allergy; caution with penicillin allergy. Use with caution in renal impairment and history of antibiotic-associated colitis. Monitor for severe allergic reactions and persistent diarrhea.
Aminoglycosides and loop diuretics (increased nephrotoxicity risk), warfarin/anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), probenecid (may increase cephalosporin levels)
Store vial below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Use reconstituted solution promptly or within stability period as per label/hospital protocol.
