Bacterial infections such as ear, throat and sinus infections, bronchitis and pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections
Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills susceptible bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It does not work for viral infections like common cold/flu.
Shake well before each dose. Measure with a dosing spoon/cup. Usually taken with food to improve absorption; follow pediatrician’s dose by weight and duration. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, rash
Prescription antibiotic. Do not use in viral infections. Inform doctor if allergic to cephalosporins/penicillins. Use with caution in kidney disease and history of colitis/diarrhea. Seek help if severe rash, breathing difficulty, or persistent/watery diarrhea occurs.
Antacids and H2 blockers (reduced absorption), probenecid (increases levels), warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), live bacterial vaccines (reduced effect)
