These patients can experience very low blood sugar levels which may become normal after a long time.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus to control blood sugar along with diet and exercise
Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that increases insulin release from the pancreas. It also improves insulin action at peripheral tissues, reducing blood glucose levels.
Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Swallow with water; do not skip meals. Monitor blood glucose and watch for hypoglycaemia symptoms.
Hypoglycaemia, dizziness, headache, nausea, weight gain, weakness
Hypoglycaemia risk higher with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, elderly patients, or kidney/liver impairment. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use caution while driving if prone to low sugar. Consider risk in G6PD deficiency.
Insulin/other antidiabetics (hypoglycaemia), fluconazole and other azole antifungals (increase effect), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia), NSAIDs and salicylates (may increase effect), corticosteroids/diuretics (raise glucose), alcohol
