How It Works
Oxymetazoline is a topical alpha-adrenergic agonist. It constricts blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, reducing swelling and congestion and improving airflow.
Directions for Use
For intranasal use only. Adults and children ≥6 years: 1-2 sprays in each nostril, 2-3 times daily as needed. Blow nose gently before use; keep head upright while spraying. Do not use for more than 3 consecutive days unless advised by a doctor.
Side Effects
Nasal burning or stinging, dryness or irritation of nose/throat, sneezing, headache, nausea, rebound congestion (with prolonged use), palpitations, increased blood pressure (rare)
Warnings & Precautions
Do not exceed recommended dose or duration; prolonged use may cause rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa). Use with caution in hypertension, heart disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, glaucoma, and enlarged prostate. Avoid use in children under 6 years unless prescribed. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist beyond 3 days or if severe irritation/bleeding occurs.
Drug Interactions
MAO inhibitors (current or within last 14 days), tricyclic antidepressants, other sympathomimetics/decongestants; caution with antihypertensives and drugs that increase blood pressure
