Treatment of diabetes mellitus (Type 1 and Type 2) to control blood glucose; used when a premixed insulin regimen is required.
How It Works
Novomix 30 is a premixed insulin containing rapid-acting insulin aspart and intermediate-acting insulin aspart protamine. It replaces/augments endogenous insulin to help glucose enter cells and reduces glucose production by the liver, providing both mealtime and basal glucose control.
Directions for Use
For subcutaneous use only using the FlexPen; inject into abdomen, thigh, upper arm or buttock and rotate sites. Usually taken with meals—inject immediately before a meal (can be given soon after starting the meal if needed) as advised by the doctor. Do not mix with other insulins in the pen; do not use intravenously or in insulin pumps. Prime the pen and use a new needle each time; follow glucose monitoring and dose titration prescribed.
Side Effects
Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), injection site reactions (redness/swelling/itching), lipodystrophy (lumps or skin thickening), weight gain, oedema, allergic reactions (rash/urticaria)
Warnings & Precautions
Risk of hypoglycaemia—do not skip meals; carry glucose/sugar; caution while driving/operating machinery. Dose adjustments may be needed in kidney or liver impairment, during illness, changes in diet/exercise, or when switching from other insulins. Do not use if solution appears clumpy/precipitated or after expiry; do not share pens/needles. Seek urgent help for severe allergy or recurrent severe hypoglycaemia.
Store unopened pens in a refrigerator at 2–8°C; do not freeze; keep away from the freezer compartment. Protect from light (keep cap on). In-use pen can be kept at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 4 weeks; do not refrigerate in-use pen; keep away from heat and sunlight.
