Fever, mild to moderate pain (e.g., headache, toothache, sore throat, body aches), post-immunization fever in children
Paracetamol reduces fever by acting on the temperature-regulating center in the brain. It also relieves pain by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system.
Oral suspension. Shake well before use. Measure the dose with a calibrated spoon/cup/dropper. Can be given with or without food; give with food/milk if stomach upset occurs. Dose is usually based on child’s weight/age as advised by the doctor; avoid exceeding the recommended total daily dose.
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, rash, itching, elevated liver enzymes (rare)
Do not exceed the prescribed dose; overdose can cause serious liver damage. Use caution in liver disease, chronic alcoholism, malnutrition, or dehydration. Avoid using with other paracetamol-containing products to prevent accidental overdose. Seek medical help if fever persists >3 days, pain persists, or signs of allergy (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty) occur.
Alcohol, warfarin (increased bleeding risk with prolonged use), rifampicin, isoniazid, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital (may increase risk of liver toxicity), cholestyramine (reduces absorption), metoclopramide/domperidone (may increase absorption)
Store below 25°C. Protect from light. Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
