Prevention of rabies (pre-exposure prophylaxis in high-risk individuals and post-exposure prophylaxis after animal bites/scratches) as part of an approved rabies vaccination regimen; to be used along with rabies immunoglobulin where indicated.
This is an inactivated rabies vaccine that stimulates the immune system to produce rabies virus neutralizing antibodies. These antibodies help prevent rabies infection if exposure occurs and form protective immunity when the full schedule is completed.
Injection for intramuscular use (usually deltoid in adults/children; anterolateral thigh in small children) or as per approved regimen; do not inject in gluteal region. Pre-exposure and post-exposure schedules vary—take exactly as prescribed and complete the full course; for post-exposure, immediate wound washing plus vaccine is essential and rabies immunoglobulin may be required for severe exposures.
Injection site pain, redness, swelling, fever, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, muscle pain, joint pain, tiredness, rash, itching
Seek urgent medical care after any suspected rabies exposure—do not delay vaccination. Do not use if there is a history of severe allergy/anaphylaxis to any component or to a previous dose; inform doctor about allergies. Immunocompromised patients (e.g., HIV, chemotherapy, steroids) may need antibody testing and additional doses; do not miss doses. In post-exposure prophylaxis, pregnancy and breastfeeding are not contraindications as rabies is fatal; vaccination should proceed. Keep under cold chain; do not freeze.
Immunosuppressants (systemic corticosteroids, chemotherapy, biologics) may reduce vaccine response; rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) should not be mixed in the same syringe or injected at the same site as vaccine; other vaccines may be co-administered at different sites as per clinician advice.
Store refrigerated at 2–8°C; do not freeze. Protect from light; keep in original carton. Use immediately after opening/reconstitution (if applicable) and discard unused portion as per label.
