Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); reduction of cardiovascular risk (heart attack/stroke) in high-risk patients when appropriate.

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks AT1 receptors. This relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and reduces strain on the heart.

Take by mouth as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow tablet whole with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Dizziness, headache, fatigue, back pain, diarrhea, nausea, low blood pressure, increased potassium (hyperkalemia), increased creatinine

Not recommended in pregnancy (may cause fetal harm) especially in 2nd/3rd trimester; stop and consult doctor if pregnancy occurs. Use caution in kidney disease, renal artery stenosis, dehydration/low salt, heart failure, or liver impairment; monitor blood pressure, kidney function and potassium. Risk of hyperkalemia especially with potassium supplements/salt substitutes. May cause dizziness—use caution while driving. Avoid dual blockade of RAAS unless specifically advised.

Potassium supplements/salt substitutes, potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, eplerenone, amiloride), ACE inhibitors/aliskiren (increased risk of kidney impairment/hyperkalemia; contraindicated with aliskiren in diabetes), NSAIDs (reduced effect and kidney risk), lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), diuretics (may increase hypotension risk)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
