How to choose
Size by weight, not age — every brand prints the weight band on the pack. Common Indian sizes: NB (under 4 kg), S (4-8 kg), M (7-12 kg), L (9-14 kg), XL (12-17 kg), XXL (15+ kg). Pant-style is easier from 6 months onward when babies start moving; taped diapers work better for newborns who lie still. Day diapers prioritise dryness and skin gentleness; night diapers have higher absorbency (10-12 hours). Check for: wetness indicator (line changes colour when wet), elastic waistband (less leaks), breathable backsheet (reduces rash), absorbent gel core (locks in liquid), aloe-vera lining (sensitive skin). Avoid: heavily fragranced diapers (skin irritation), diapers with rough leg gathers (chafing). Bulk-buy the big pack only after you've tested a small pack of that brand and size on your baby for 3-4 days — every baby's leg/waist shape is different.
Who really needs this
Every parent of a baby under 2.5-3 years. Cloth diapers are an alternative for environmentally-conscious or budget-conscious parents — they save money over 2 years but mean significantly more laundry and slightly more frequent changes. Hybrid (cloth at home, disposable when out) is a common middle path.
