Important Warnings

Severe teratogenic risk: contraindicated in pregnancy. Women of childbearing potential must use effective contraception during treatment and for a prolonged period after stopping (follow prescriber guidance) and require regular pregnancy testing. Do not donate blood during therapy and for an extended period after stopping. Use with caution/avoid in liver disease, kidney impairment, high lipids, alcoholism, diabetes; monitor LFTs and lipids. May cause photosensitivity and reduced night vision; caution driving at night. Avoid vitamin A supplements and other retinoids due to toxicity.

Alcohol (increases risk of forming etretinate and prolongs teratogenicity)
tetracyclines (risk of pseudotumor cerebri)
methotrexate (hepatotoxicity risk)
vitamin A/other retinoids (hypervitaminosis A)
phenytoin (increased risk of bone effects)
lipid-lowering therapy may be needed if triglycerides rise
