How Aceret 25 mg Capsule works

Acitretin is an oral retinoid (vitamin A derivative) that normalizes abnormal skin cell growth and differentiation. It reduces excessive keratinization and inflammation, helping clear thick, scaly plaques in severe psoriasis.

How to take Aceret 25 mg Capsule

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with food (preferably a fatty meal or milk) to improve absorption. Swallow whole; do not crush or open. Regular follow-up and lab tests are required.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Aceret 25 Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Warnings and precautions

Severe teratogenic risk: contraindicated in pregnancy. Women of childbearing potential must use effective contraception during treatment and for a prolonged period after stopping (follow prescriber guidance) and require regular pregnancy testing. Do not donate blood during therapy and for an extended period after stopping. Use with caution/avoid in liver disease, kidney impairment, high lipids, alcoholism, diabetes; monitor LFTs and lipids. May cause photosensitivity and reduced night vision; caution driving at night. Avoid vitamin A supplements and other retinoids due to toxicity.

Do not take Aceret if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for use on broken or infected skin unless prescribed.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases risk of forming etretinate and prolongs teratogenicity), tetracyclines (risk of pseudotumor cerebri), methotrexate (hepatotoxicity risk), vitamin A/other retinoids (hypervitaminosis A), phenytoin (increased risk of bone effects), lipid-lowering therapy may be needed if triglycerides rise

It may cause dryness of the skin, mouth, and lips. Drink plenty of water and use a moisturiser and lip balm, if needed. It may cause dry eyes and blurred vision. Avoid wearing contact lenses and exercise caution before driving or operating machinery. Your doctor may order regular blood tests to monitor your liver function and the levels of fats, such as cholesterol, in your blood.
