Important Warnings
Prescription-only lipid-lowering medicine. Avoid in active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevation of liver enzymes. Use caution in patients with kidney problems, hypothyroidism, heavy alcohol use, or elderly (higher myopathy risk). Periodic lipid profile and liver function monitoring may be advised. Not recommended in pregnancy; avoid breastfeeding.

Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g.
clarithromycin/erythromycin
ketoconazole/itraconazole
protease inhibitors) increase atorvastatin levels; cyclosporine (avoid or close monitoring); fibrates (especially gemfibrozil) and high-dose niacin increase myopathy risk; warfarin (monitor INR); colchicine (myopathy risk); grapefruit juice (avoid/excess use); antacids may reduce atorvastatin absorption slightly; bile acid sequestrants (separate dosing as advised).
