Important Warnings

Prescription-only. Monitor blood pressure and pulse regularly. May cause dizziness—avoid driving/alcohol until you know the effect. Do not stop metoprolol suddenly (risk of rebound hypertension/angina); taper under medical advice. Use with caution in asthma/COPD, diabetes (may mask hypoglycemia), thyroid disorders, peripheral vascular disease, heart block, bradycardia, heart failure, liver impairment. Seek urgent care for severe breathing difficulty, fainting, very slow pulse, swelling of face/lips, or chest pain.

nitrates
alpha-blockers; verapamil/diltiazem/amiodarone/digoxin (bradycardia/heart block risk); clonidine (rebound hypertension on withdrawal—manage carefully); NSAIDs (may reduce BP control); CYP2D6 inhibitors like fluoxetine/paroxetine/quinidine (increase metoprolol levels); insulin/oral antidiabetics (mask hypoglycemia); alcohol (enhanced dizziness/hypotension).
