Mupirocin 2% w/w ointment
Treatment of bacterial skin infections such as impetigo; infected small cuts, wounds, abrasions; secondary skin infections due to susceptible bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes).
Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly binding to bacterial isoleucyl‑tRNA synthetase. This stops bacterial growth and helps clear the infection.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a small amount as a thin layer 2–3 times daily or as directed by a doctor; may be covered with sterile gauze. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and inside nose unless specifically prescribed; wash hands before and after application.
Common side effects of Mupicip Ointment may include:
Use only on skin; avoid eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use on large areas, deep wounds or severe burns unless advised by a doctor. Stop and seek medical advice if severe irritation, allergy (swelling, hives) or worsening occurs, or if no improvement in 3–5 days. Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Use with caution in severe kidney disease if large amounts are used (some ointment bases may contain polyethylene glycol).
