Important Warnings

Long-term or high-dose use may increase risk of low magnesium (hypomagnesemia), vitamin B12 deficiency, bone fractures, and certain infections (e.g., C. difficile diarrhea). Seek medical advice if black stools, persistent diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, or unexplained weight loss occur. Use with caution in severe liver disease. May cause false-negative results in certain gastric tests and affect chromogranin A testing; may mask symptoms of gastric malignancy—evaluate alarm symptoms. Not intended for immediate relief of acute heartburn.

methotrexate high-dose (may increase levels)
ketoconazole/itraconazole/posaconazole (reduced absorption)

iron salts (reduced absorption)
rifampicin and St John’s wort (may reduce PPI effect)
