What is Supirocin Ointment used for?

Treatment of primary and secondary bacterial skin infections such as impetigo
infected cuts/wounds
abrasions
folliculitis and infected eczema caused by susceptible bacteria (including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes).

How Supirocin Ointment Works

Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly binding to isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase. This prevents incorporation of isoleucine into bacterial proteins, leading to inhibition of bacterial growth and eradication of susceptible organisms.

Dosage & Directions

For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer of ointment 2–3 times daily or as directed by a doctor. May be covered with sterile gauze if advised. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and inside the nose unless specifically prescribed.
