Important Warnings

Use only under medical supervision; dose is individualized based on TSH/T4 levels. Overdose can cause symptoms of hyperthyroidism and serious cardiac effects. Use with caution in heart disease (angina, arrhythmias), elderly, adrenal insufficiency (must be treated before starting), diabetes (may alter glucose control) and osteoporosis risk. Not for weight loss; high doses can be dangerous. Monitor thyroid function tests periodically, especially after dose changes and during pregnancy.

cholestyramine/colestipol
sevelamer (reduced absorption); proton pump inhibitors and high-fibre/soy diets may reduce effect; warfarin (increased anticoagulant effect); antidiabetic medicines/insulin (dose adjustment may be needed); digoxin (effect may decrease); carbamazepine
phenytoin
phenobarbital
rifampicin (increased metabolism); amiodarone (affects thyroid function)
