Important Warnings

Use only under medical supervision with periodic TSH monitoring. Overdose/over-replacement may cause symptoms of hyperthyroidism and increase risk of arrhythmias, angina or osteoporosis. Use caution in elderly and in patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, adrenal insufficiency or uncontrolled thyrotoxicosis (contraindicated). Correct adrenal insufficiency before starting. Not for weight loss; high doses can be dangerous.

Reduced absorption with calcium salts
iron salts
aluminium/magnesium antacids
sucralfate
cholestyramine/colestipol
sevelamer; increased requirements with rifampicin
carbamazepine
phenytoin
phenobarbital
sertraline; potentiates warfarin effect (INR monitoring); may alter insulin/oral antidiabetic needs; caution with digoxin (effect may decrease as thyroid status normalizes).
