Levothyroxine sodium 25 mcg (as thyroxine) tablet
Treatment of hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), thyroid hormone replacement after thyroidectomy or radioactive iodine therapy, management of goitre due to thyroid hormone deficiency
Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4), a natural thyroid hormone. It is converted to triiodothyronine (T3) in the body and restores normal thyroid hormone levels, helping regulate metabolism, energy and growth.
Tablet for oral use. Take once daily on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning 30–60 minutes before breakfast, with water. Take at the same time each day; avoid taking with calcium/iron/antacids—keep a 4-hour gap. Dose is individualized based on TSH and clinical response; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
Common side effects of THYROUP 25 may include:
Use only under medical supervision with periodic TSH monitoring. Overdose/over-replacement may cause symptoms of hyperthyroidism and increase risk of arrhythmias, angina or osteoporosis. Use caution in elderly and in patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, adrenal insufficiency or uncontrolled thyrotoxicosis (contraindicated). Correct adrenal insufficiency before starting. Not for weight loss; high doses can be dangerous.
